Class Act Players

These exceptional young actors came together as a company and have performed throughout western North Carolina. Case in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Photo by Brittany Jencks. In the beginning of 2010, Class Act Players (CAP) was restructured. The players are now running the show! << Do inmates and asylums come to mind? >> These amazing young actors meet every week to take care of the business end of running an acting company. The managing director acts as facilitator and has the final word on all proposals and decisions.

One of the first things decided was to hire "teaching artists" to direct productions, teach technique and help the Players grow into the best actors they can be.

Photo by Brittany Jencks. Our first teaching artist, Mandy Bean, came from The Montford Park Players (MPP) and directed an adaptation of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, which was adapted by one of the Players. CAP then performed this adaptation for 3 nights as an opener for the MPP 2010 production of The Asheville Shakespearience. Audiences at all the shows raved about the performances.

Dusty was the director of the Stella Adler in Asheville school for acting. He also directed Twelfth Night for the MPP 2010 season and has appeared in many productions in Asheville, Hendersonville and with the Flat Rock Playhouse. Two of our Players appeared in Twelfth Night and one other was Assistant Stage Manager. Dusty taught acting technique using the script for Radium Girls. CAP performed Radium Girls and audience members were overheard after the shows saying things like "I forgot I was watching kids."

Our Teaching Artist for the Spring 2012 season is Kristi DeVille, dance choreographer, director and fire dancer. Kristy directed Lysistrata last season for MPP and is set to direct Merry Wives of Windsor this summer. She choreographed the dance scenes for last season's productions of Romeo and Juliet and A Christmas Carol for MPP. She has also appeared in many productions around WNC. Kristy will be directing CAP in Shakespeare Stealer.

CAP thanks the WNC acting community for all their support.
